In Chester on Water Street, Front Harbour is the starting point for an adventure to the Tancook Islands, an 8 KM (5M) ferry ride on the William G. Ernst.  The service runs from Chester to Big and Little Tancook Island. 

The ferry offers a special way to experience the beauty of the bay and once on either island there are many kilometers of quiet country roads and walking trails that offer ever-changing views of the bay.

There are no services on Little Tancook Island, but , Big Tancook Island features a restaurant and craft shop called, Carolyn's Cafe & Crafts.  It is conveniently located opposite the ferry wharf on Big Tancook Island.  It is a cozy gray and plum building which is only a five minute walk from the Tancook Ferry.

Carolyn's is an eat-in or take-out restaurant, specializing in fresh seafood, burgers, sandwiches, salads, seafood chowder, home made pie, ice cream, hot and cold drinks and much more.

Dine in overlooking the picturesque Mahone Bay, or take out Carolyn's fresh, top quality home-cooking.  Bus tours and large groups should call ahead and ask her to prepare a delicious chowder luncheon, just for you and your friends...made with only the freshest seafood available.  Call (902) 228-2749

Browse through her large selection of locally made crafts, which include the famous "Tancook Island Apple Doll."  You will find unique gifts for everyone on your list as well as souvenirs and post cards of the Island...all hand made.  The selection of craft items include, Suttle mats, embroidered and quilted items, hand painted popple rocks and much more!
